OCTOBER

Gailes Juniors participated in the   Schweppes PGA Junior Shootout following the latest Junior Clinic.
A good number turned out for the event including a number of players who were assigned a 9 hole handicap for the event.

The winner was Shaun Kluck who bogeyed the last two holes for a great score of 38, nett 32.  Close behind was Enshan Hooi on 34 nett with Alex Bottrel winning his first ever golf trophy when a count-back placed him third.

The winner is a strong chance to get a place in a golf camp at Twin Waters later in the year where some of the PGA stars will appear.  I notice also that Shaun has lost 4 shots recently to be very close to A Grade status.

You can see the lastest news on the National Shootout Camp at http://www.pga.org.au/default.asp?pg=newjuniors&spg=default

Another recent big improver is Damian Brett who has reduced 4 shots from the last week of September to mid-October.  Keep it up Damo!

Next Junior Clinic – last Sunday in October  ....  Get in the swing at Gailes!

SEPTEMBER

Remember the September Clinic is on the last weekend of the School Holidays (really in October).

Jason Day won the 16-17 year old section of the Gary Player Classic at Pacific in the last week of September. Read about it on ISeek Golf at http://www.iseekgolf.com/view_articles.php/5133/37/5575/3/42/637/1/

JUNE

Matthew Way became the youngest winner of a club grade championship for at least 15 years - Brett Cosgrove and Matt Guyatt were Juniors who won B and C Grade respectively in 1990.   In the final, Matt defeated Brian Fitton 3 & 2 mainly due to some excellent play on the back nine.  The highlight was definitely a 7 iron second shot to the 417m 15th which finished within 50 cm.  with a wedge to the 10th also scoring an honorable mention.

Matthew reached the final of the C Grade championships with a 2 up win over Dave Ricketts.  Other Juniors to qualify in their first year of golf at Gailes were Enshan Hooi, who reached the semi-finals, and Damien Brett who was knocked out of the match play on the 20th hole in the first round.  Matthew plays Brian Fitton in the final tommorrow.

Jason Day continues his good form with a win in the BDGA Brisbane Championship (72-67 at Royal Queensland).  In the Callaway Trans Tasman Secondary Schools Championship Jason at Twin Waters scored 64-67 to be win the individual title and lead his Hills International School team to a repeat of last year's victory in Wellington.  Story from NZ
