The Associates today held a 4BBB event
sponsored by Andrews Meats of Mt Ommaney. The ladies enjoyed a beautiful
winter's day (winter?) with a balmy 26 degrees, and great weather for the
BBQ which followed where all enjoyed tender Andrews Meats steak and sausages
cooked to perfection by our BBQ chef, member Ken Fourte, assisted by his
capable offsider, Phyllis (left). Winners Jill Cavanagh and Margaret
Michael, and runners up Hana Sialaio and Vicki Jones (right) were the lucky
recipients of vouchers from Andrews Meats. |

The
Queensland team was announced today and includes Gailes Natalie Margetts. Today
Nat reached the final of the Womens Golf Queensland Championship where she met
15 year old Amy Yang from The Glades who played consistent strong golf in the 36 hole match play final
at Brookwater. Both players gave few opportunities in
the first 18 and Amy was two up after 18 holes. The par 3 32nd hole saw both players leave their putts short, but Amy made
no mistake for her par to claim the Championship 5/4.
14 Gailes associates entered the various divisions of the Qld Championships, and
all found the Brookwater course extremely challenging and often unforgiving of
any wayward shot!

Trust
Company sponsored the Open Mixed Day on Tuesday July 12 and 104 players enjoyed
a great day's golf in perfect conditions after the event was unfortunately
rained out two weeks previously. The photo shows the Trust Company
representatives with President Mardi and the Division 2 winners, Bryan and Kath
Simmons (on right) and Division 2 runners up, Yoka and John Fengler. |

Congratulations
to 2005 Gailes Associates Club Champion Katrina Jones who defeated Amy
Harding over 36 holes today 8/6. Katrina started strongly and
was 5 up after 10 holes, however Amy rallied and maintained pressure
over the next 10 holes, before Katrina was able to nail the winning
margin.
B Grade Club Champion is Biddy
Anderson ,and Joyce Daly won the C Grade Championship.
It was good to see Natalie Margetts amongst the
spectators too, having just returned from a successful trip to the
British Open Amateur where she qualified 30th and reached the second
round of the match play. |

Club
Championships
David
Hamilton won his first Club Championship with a 2 & 1 win over Darren
Kapusi in the 36 hole final today (June 13th) at Gailes. Hitting off
in heavy fog early today, David was never behind, but the match was
close and both players were around par after the first 18 holes.
Spectators were
witness to some great shotmaking on the next 18. A flurry of birdies
took David to 6 up after 23 holes, but Darren was not done with and
fought his way back to be only one down with two to play. However, a
shot out-of- bounds on the 17th put paid to his hopes.

B
Grade Championship
Greg
Misso and Andrew Little contested the B Grade Championship final.
Neither player seemed to gain a winning advantage until Greg got to 2
up after 15 holes. Yet they were square again hitting off the 18th.
Greg played a
magnificent approach through trees while Andrews straight shot caught
the top of the right side trees and dropped short. He was unable to
get “up and down” and Greg was able to two putt for victory.
C Grade Championship
Neither
Kerry Hodson nor Sione Sialaoa would allow his opponent more than a
one hole advantage in today’s C Grade final. The pair will admit to
some nervous shots, but were also able to produce some great
approaches to tough pins.
At the end of 18
holes they were still square and headed off to a sudden death
playoff. Nerves were again obvious with Sione relieved to hole a
downhill four footer to win. |

Gailes Seniors win
Division 1 Pennants
Gailes
Senior Pennant Team defeated Keperra 4-1 in the Division 1 Final at
Ashgrove GC on June 6th.
Don Fardon, Norm
Way, Leigh Madsen and Daryl Wilkins all recorded wins while Sam Masui
was only beaten on the 19th hole.
Rob Ogilvy, who was
unable to play in the final after an undefeated season at No 1, was
named Pennant Player of the Year for the division.
David Shirlaw and
Bob Lette also played for the team this year, while Tony Trimboli did
a marvellous job as team manager.
This was Gailes
eighth consecutive appearance in the Division 1 final and our sixth

 Congratulations
to Gailes Natalie Margetts who posted an outstanding 73 to win the
Gailes Cup on Thursday May 12. The
weather produced the only rainy day of the year, however the promised
"moderate to heavy falls" did not eventuate and the players coped
reasonably well with the showery conditions. The Gailes Cup
for Associates was Queensland's first club Open competition for ladies
and has been contested since 1926. This year the event is designated a
WGQ Stroke Averages event, and Gailes welcomed a number of
Queensland's elite amateur golfers.

Happy New Year to all Gailes Golfers and
friends! Gailes looks forward to
welcoming you back for a 2005 game of golf very soon. Even though the
weather is still quite hot and humid the course is in great shape, and
the fields at Gailes are still large. 150 played in today's Wednesday
Single Stroke event which was won by Bob Shirlaw with an excellent
score of 66 Nett, and 69 Gross. Obviously Bob likes his golf hot!
