Congratulations to 3 of
our associates who have been selected for representative honours.
Katrina Jones was selected in the Queensland State Team
which competed in the Gladys Hay Interstate series in Tasmania in
September, and Patricia Fechner was chosen in the victorious B&D Meg
Nunn team of which Phyllis Fourte was selected as non-playing
captain. Unfortunately Phyllis had to withdraw from this role due
to work commitments in Peru!
Amy Harding was knocked out in the semi finals of the Queensland
State Championships, and Robyn Packer and Judy Smith both reached
the semi finals in the Bronze Division. |

Please make allowances for the
spectators on the course these days ... they can get a little
jumpy! And on the morning of July 27 there were other hazards on
the course ... a pea souper fog made it wise to stay on the
fairways if you wanted to find your ball! |

The Insanity Spoon was won yesterday by Jack Stevenson and Paul Jenner with 13 up in the 4BBB vSS event. The historic "Spoon" dates back to the days when Gailes was called Goodna Golf Club and the "Insanity Service Trophy" ( the official name of the large wooden spoon ) refers to the staff of the adjoining Goodna Asylum. Gailes has now entered
into its 82nd year of association and continues to offer a Championship course
similar to the layout that held the Australian Open in 1955. It is a
course steeped in history and tradition and one that we’re sure the
majority of members are proud to be associated with. Where
else in Brisbane can you be a member of a Championship Golf Club and
play each and every Saturday, sometimes by just even turning up
without even booking a game? There are no membership ballots at
Gailes to play on a Saturday, nor is there a set waiting period that
you must endure before you get the ‘right’ to play on a Saturday. It
is an open Club and one that we continue to enjoy.
