The Christmas Whittaker Macnaught Open Mixed 4BBB Stableford was held today and  129 players were in the field.  The weather was excellent, not too hot and no showers, and the course was green and lush. Some excellent scores were recorded by the winners in Div 1, .N and E. Cho (49 points), and in Div 2 M.Choi and S. Park scored 48 points.

Lots of Christmas give aways, plus the ever popular wine raffle added to the atmosphere and contributed to a very successful day. Our sincere thanks to our sponsors Whittaker Macnaught.

Gailes welcomes a new Pro Shop owner - Russell O'Neill. Russell is well known to Gailes members and associates as he has been involved in the Pro Shop for most of the year. Russell is already re organising the Pro Shop and acquiring exciting new stock in the shop, plus he is out there proving what an excellent golfing coach he is too!. Russell and his team are looking forward to working with Gailes members and associates to provide all they require in golfing needs. Welcome Russell!

Gailes victorious Bronze Pennant teamCongratulations to the Associates BRONZE PENNANT team who were victorious this year. The team won 4 out of 5 matches and finished the competition  3 points ahead of runners up Brisbane.
The team (pictured) was Tricia Brown (non-playing Captain), Heather Thomas, Stephanie Kretschmer, Carol Montgomery, Robyn Packer and Bev Prosser. Not present were Biddy Anderson and Pan Soon Kim.

Gailes Open Mixed Sept 4 Winners and Runners UpThe Open Mixed 4BBB Stableford held today was sponsored by the Darra Motel. Conditions were excellent, with the rain holding off until the afternoon. Scoring was high, and 50 points were required to win, with the rundown going to 44 points. Graham and Carol Montgomery won Division 1 and Ken and Stephanie Kretschmer were successful in Division 2. Gailes members Bev and Eric Prosser of the Darra Motel ensured the day was memorable for everyone with a ball and a pen for all, and 2 extra cartons of wine to add to our wine raffle, many thanks Bev and Eric! Aug 10 '07 The amalgamation of the Queensland Golf Union and Women's Golf Queensland is now fully complete and the Board is pleased to announce that Tom Crothers will be the inaugural President of the new entity. The Board of Golf Queensland, which comprises Tom Crothers, Carmel Smith, Peter Castrisos, Tricia Harding, Val Johnston and Barry Shepherd, is also pleased to announce that Carmel Smith will be the Vice President.  Read the Media Release here.

July 27 '07 Robyn Packer, Qld Bronze ChampionCongratulations to Robyn Packer who won the Queensland Bronze Championship at Brisbane today. Ten Gailes ladies participated in the Qld State Championships and 4 reached the match play rounds. Jess Horton was unlucky to be knocked out of the Qld Plate on the 19th hole by eventual winner Shoko Takuma. Eunice Kim lost her first round match play to eventual winner Ann Fell in the Silver Flight. In the Bronze Championship match play Carol Montgomery succumbed after 20 holes, while Robyn Packer had 3 convincing wins on her way to the Bronze Championship. Well done Robyn! Robyn is shown receiving her trophy from Golf Queensland Vice President Carmel Smith and CEO Stephen Pitt.

The Gailes Associates Club Championships have just concluded and congratulations go to our 2007 Club Champion Jessica Horton who defeated Jill Cavanagh 9&8 in the 36 hole match play final on Tuesday July 10. In the B Grade final over 18 holes Biddy Anderson defeated Bev Stone 6&5. The C Grade final was contested over 36 holes and won by Margaret Michael with a gross score of 203. It is the first time that Jess Horton, handicap 4, has her name on the Gailes Championship Cup, and her golf was worthy of the honour. The final hole (the 10th) saw Jess claim victory with an astounding 280 metre drive, followed by a chip to 6 feet … well done Jess! At the conclusion of the Championship final  the players and supporters followed tradition by enjoying lunch and celebratory drinks in the Associates room downstairs. Congratulations to all the Championship winners for 2007.

June 14 '07 Eunice Kim, Gailes Cup winnerThe associates Gailes Cup was played on Thursday June 14.  Results
63 ladies enjoyed the excellent Gailes course although the first hole was played as a par 4 today, instead of the usual par 5, as the recycled water pipeline construction is underway, and will affect the first 2 holes in June.
Eunice Kim (17) from Gailes played an outstanding game and came in with a score of 70 Nett to win the Gailes Cup by 3 shots from Gailes Sandy Lynch who carded 73 Nett. Congratulations Eunice!
The B Grade was won by June Ryder (Windaroo) with runner up June Kim (Pacific), and the C Grade was won by Jan Hedges from Sanctuary Cove, with Gailes Joan Fardon runner up.
May 01 '07 The second Open Mixed for 2007 was played at Gailes today and was sponsored for the first time by Elizabeth St Chemmart and Forest Place Dispensary. Results here. The winners in Division 1 were Neville Lamb and Heather Thomas with 46 points, and in Division 2 the winners were Bill and Judy Livingston also with 46 points.
And how good was the course?? Fantastic!! Lush fairways and great greens!
Mar 20 '07 Lady gardeners

Gailes welcomes Mal Rudd who takes up a part time position as gardener responsible for the Club House surrounds.  Already the results of Mal's hard work can be seen, and today the ladies had a working bee and cleaned up and planted the area adjacent to the club house beside the car park. Shortly the area in front of the club house will be planted, then all we need is RAIN!

Feb 27 '07 The first Open Mixed for 2007 was played at Gailes today sponsored by Cadbury Schweppes. Results here. The field of 108 enjoyed an excellent competition in perfect conditions, and some excellent scores resulted. The Clubhouse was buzzing with the convivial atmosphere as players enjoyed lunch and participated in the raffles and lucky door prizes prior to the presentations.
Feb 19 '07 In conjunction with the Gailes Pro Shop, ABC Teaching Professionals Alex Head and Luke Prosser have organised golf clinics at Gailes for $20 per session.

Jan 18 '07 Working Bee at the Club
Captain Rod Lawerson has organised several Working Bees at the Club, and today this group of members swapped their golf gear for gardening gear and did a great job clipping the hedges, and tidying up all the garden areas around the Club. Thanks guys!

Gailes has appointed a new General Manager, Rob Thomson, who started at Gailes last week. Rob brings to Gailes management expertise plus small business knowledge from his career as State Manager of Goodman Fielder, and more recently as owner of the Poolwerx franchise at Middle Park. Welcome Rob!
