Today 104 players took part in the Open Mixed sponsored by the Darra Motel which is  owned by Gailes members Bev and Eric Prosser who provided great trophies for the lucky winners plus balls and pens for all players. Despite the inclement forecast and the early morning fog the weather behaved and most  players stayed for lunch and presentations enjoying the convivial atmosphere in the club house after golf.  Division 1 winners were Matthew and Eunice Kim, with runners up Jim Coogan and Bernie Pickering. Division 2 was won by Brian and Tricia Brown, and the runners up were Jan and John Conroy.

The Associates Club Championships were finalised today. The 36 hole  match play Club Championship final was won convincingly by Jess Horton with runner up, Eunice Kim. Conditions were abysmal for the first 18 holes with constant light rain, and a few extra water hazards on the course, but Jess Horton was pleased to get some "wet weather" experience (or so she said!), and the standard of her golf was outstanding. The B Grade championship was won by Jan Stewart who defeated Vicki Jones, and Carol Montgomery defeated Judy Smith in the B Grade Flight while C Grade Champion is Elna Jensen. Congratulations to all the winners.

Gailes this week hosted the Queensland Junior Boys Championship. Despite the deluge that hit Gailes on Sunday Stewart Poole and his team were able to provide a great playing course on Monday, proving once again that Gailes is indeed a wonderful all weather course. The final round of the 72 hole stroke play event was played in excellent conditions today.

Nisbet holds off challengers to win his second Queensland Junior Championship

Daniel Nisbet (Caboolture) has claimed his second Queensland Junior Championship after finishing with a solid final round score of 71 (-2). Nisbet was too hard to catch in the end, winning the 2008 championship by seven strokes. Incredibly, Nisbet won the championship after shooting a disappointing first round 80 (+7) placing him well off the pace after round one but bounced back with rounds of 65, 67, 71

2008 Junior Boys' Champion of Queensland Daniel Nisbet (Caboolture)

Nisbet ended the championship on 283 (-9), with the nearest challenger and runner-up being Phillip An (Pacific) who finished a further seven shots behind after only managing a final round 72 (-1).Third place went to 2007 Schoolboys Champion of Queensland Peter Hong (Indooroopilly) who closed with a 74 (+1) finishing on a championship total of 294 (+2).

The 14 years and under division was won by Nicholas Smits (The Colonial) who played some impressive golf on the final day shooting a 72 (-1) overtaking overnight leader Cameron Smith (Wantima) and finishing on a total of 297 (+5). Runner-up went to the 2007 14 years and under division winner Aaron Wilkin (Wynnum) on a championship total of 298 (+6).

Golf Queensland thanks Gailes Golf Club for their tremendous effort and work on and off the course before and during the championship. Full credit must go to course superintendent Stewart Poole and his team for presenting a fantastic course after torrential rain the day before the championship.

Nisbet takes 6 shot lead going into the final round of Queensland Junior

Daniel Nisbet (Caboolture) has followed up his dazzling second round 65 (-8) with a third round score of 67 (-6) giving him a 6 shot cushion going into the final round of the Junior Boys' Championship of Queensland tomorrow at Gailes Golf Club.

Nisbet is now on -7 for the championship and will be looking to add a second Queensland Junior Championship to his resume after winning this event back in 2006 as a 15 year old.

Daniel Nisbet (Caboolture) has fought back to hold the lead going into the final round tomorrow

Trying to catch Nisbet is Jackson Park (Nudgee) and Phillip An (Pacific) who fired rounds of 71 (-2) and 73 (Ev) respectively placing them in equal second on 218 (-1). Overnight leader Eagle Chang (Oxley) will be disappointed with his third round performance after firing a 75 (+2) slipping him back to third place and six shots behind Nisbet.

The 14 years and under division is being led by Cameron Smith (Wantima) who fired a third round 76 (+3) giving him a championship total of 220 (+1) placing him just one shot ahead of Aaron Wilkin (Wynnum). The cut mark after three rounds was set at 246 (+27).

Tomorrow is the final round of play with the field cut to the top 70 players plus ties, and the leaders teeing off at 8:30am.
